Though it was a summer flop, Stuart Little 2 may be an Oscar contender for (surprise!) best animated feature. ''The majority of the sequences have animated characters,'' says Sony Imageworks prez Tim Sarnoff. Adds director Rob Minkoff, ''The star is a digital character brought to life through animation, like Shrek.'' According to Oscar rules for the year-old category, an animated feature must have a significant number of major animated characters and include animation in at least 75 percent of its running time. (That probably rules out Scooby-Doo and Star Wars: Episode II.) But Stuart shouldn't rent his tiny tux yet. ''The Academy has already red-flagged this movie,'' says Oscar official Patrick Stockstill, predicting a decision by December. ''It's not an automatic slam dunk.'' Unpixelated Stuart star Geena Davis surely agrees.
