To get over his ex-girlfriend and an unfulfilling torrent of one-night stands, Web designer Matt (Hartnett, showing remarkable acting heft in such a slight role) vows to give up all forms of sex for Lent. This, of course, doesn't preclude Matt from giving his topless new girlfriend (Sossamon) an orchid-asm (sweet, but whaaa?). Shot in cool San Francisco, director Michael Lehmann's romantic comedy (written by newcomer Robert Perez) has a clever concept and a hip vibe, but the quick tonal switches from sexless sex romp to refreshing young-love story leave 40 Days more mixed-up than its tormented hero.
