All About

Russell Crowe

The Pretenders -- who've been with Warner Bros. Records for 23 years -- have left and signed with an indie, Artemis. ''Basically, we were dropped,'' says Chrissie Hynde. ''We weren't selling records. But we were delighted to get away, because it had become so impersonal, I didn't even know who the president of the company was.'' Their new CD, ''Loose Screw,'' comes out on Artemis this fall, and Hynde hopes to use her new connections to cozy up to a certain 30 Odd Foot of Grunts singer and labelmate. ''I'd like to talk Russell Crowe into putting his film career to the side and touring with us. I've heard their new album; it's good. Russell, you decide -- actor, rock star? The choice is yours.''
