Details Lead Performance: DJ Dolores & Orchestra Santa Massa

Brazilian pop past and future. The first is a classic bossa nova session from 1970 featuring the relatively unsung coauthor of ''Girl From Ipanema'' (included here), with help from singer Maria Creuza and guitarist Toquinho. It's a pre-flower-power set, but the high point is an airborne cover of ''Irene,'' penned in prison by hippie-intellectual pop star Caetano Veloso. Fast-forward to 2002 for DJ Dolores' Recife-based cyber-samba crew. His beats are wicked, but the star is MC Salu, a fiddle-playing funkateer who kicks it in a Northeastern country style. CARNIVAL HOEDOWN ''A Danca da Moda'' is a dubby street party with a loopy girl chorus and a breakdown suitable for square dancing. Live: B+ Contraditorio: B+
