Since his comeback two years ago, the gravel-and-grits-voiced Tritt has demonstrated new soulfulness in his repertoire and vocals. While his barn-burning Southern rock now sounds thin, his best performances lie in mainstream country, with plaintive pleas to women and no-apology autobiography -- both of which reexamine the idea of masculinity in a changing world.
