'LIFE' STORY LeAnn Rimes, whose Oct. 1 disc, Twisted Angel, finds her moving in a pop/R&B direction, recently objected when her label, Curb, sent a countrified remix of her new single, ''Life Goes On,'' to radio stations without her knowledge. When Rimes balked, Curb withdrew it and on Aug. 29 sent out a Rimes-approved remix, embellished with fiddle but less twangy. Rimes declined to comment, but Curb VP Carson James says of the switcheroo, ''We turned it around so fast it would make your head spin.'' He reports that the new mix is ''getting airplay in major markets.'' And the CD version is thriving on pop stations. But some folks in country radio are singing a different tune. Says Coyote Calhoun, DJ/program director of Louisville's WAMZ: ''I don't know of one country station that gave that remix airplay. Most of us pitched it in the trash.''
