John Carpenter's name above the title once meant a true bone-chiller would follow, but now all it says is ''Look out! Crap's coming!'' But that's not always a bad thing. A sequel to 1998's John Carpenter's Vampires, Los Muertos doesn't stray far from the original's story line -- a ragtag band of vampire hunters (led by Bon Jovi, raising the proceedings from corn to camp) chases a band of day-seeking night stalkers through a sanitized fiesta-festooned Mexico. Pumped up by clever cinematography and a spicy score, Los Muertos is like bad medicine, and (sing it, Jon Bon!) sometimes bad medicine is what you need.
