Patrick Warburton

STATUS Warburton is a true dark horse entry, with a following of Web nuts campaigning online.

SUPERHERO CRED See ''The Tick.'' But this 37-year-old has also voiced Buzz Lightyear in several ''Toy Story'' direct-to-video sequels and...Superman, himself, in the Jerry Seinfeld/American Express commercial of a few years ago.

PRO This ''Seinfeld'' alum (he played Elaine's on-again, off-again boy toy, Puddy) was virtually born to play the Man of Steel, or at least a comic version of him. The jutting jaw...the squared shoulders...the Wall Street WASP-y voice.

CON Taking this guy seriously as Superman would be difficult, considering the goof-offs and humorously tough knuckleheads he's played for most of his career. And box office-wise, he's about as bankable as Carrot Top.

VERDICT Warburton has nothing to lose, but Warner Bros. does. Don't be surprised if the studio treats this fan favorite as if he were made of Kryptonite.
