And you thought Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was the most risqué puppet on late-night TV. Turns out that squeaky-clean Jay Leno's ''Tonight Show'' has booked the performers behind ''Puppetry of the Penis'' for Wednesday's episode.
But even on late-night TV, you won't actually get to see the act, in which Australian performers David Friend and Simon Morley twist and fold their genitals into recognizable shapes. The human balloon animals will stay zipped; according to published reports, Leno is only going to interview Friend and Morley, whose stage show has played New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and cities in Britain and Australia.
In other words, Leno won't be taking the risk that a San Francisco morning show took last Friday. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the two men did their act before the live audience in the studio at station KRON's morning show, while the cameras shot them from the waist up, Ed Sullivan-style. Unfortunately, one of the cameras dipped too low, giving folks at home a view of the full Monty. Put that in your morning coffee and stir it.
