CHASING THE DIME (2012)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Writer: Michael Connelly; Genre: Fiction; Publisher: Little Brown & Company

Meet Henry Pierce, gifted chemist, workaholic, and Everyman who gets sucked into the underworld of pornography and Internet pimping when his phone starts receiving calls for a whore named Lilly. A cat-and-mouse game ensues. Pierce scours Los Angeles for the woman he has never met until he realizes (1) she's dead, and (2) he's being framed for the murder. Despite some slow going at the beginning, it's a nice Hitchcockian tale of unease, one part Vertigo, one part The Man Who Knew Too Much, and all hard-boiled Connelly.
