AILING Oscar nominee Teri Garr (Tootsie), 52, announced on Oct. 8 that she has had symptoms of the degenerative nerve disease multiple sclerosis for 19 years. ''I didn't tell people because I didn't want pity and I was afraid I wouldn't get work,'' she said in a statement. ''But others with MS need to know they are not alone.''... On Sept. 23, Filter singer Richard Patrick, 34, entered a California hospital seeking treatment for alcohol and substance abuse. The hard-rockers have canceled all their upcoming tour dates.... Actor-monologist Spalding Gray (Gray's Anatomy), 61, checked into a New York City hospital Oct. 2 for depression, which he's suffered since fracturing his skull in a car accident in Ireland last year. ''He's now finally getting the help...he needs,'' his publicist says.... On Oct. 5, Jude Law's 2-year-old daughter, Iris, was rushed to a London hospital after swallowing part of an Ecstasy pill that was on the floor of a club during a children's party. Iris fully recovered a day later, prompting a rep for Law to say that the actor, 29, and his actress/designer wife, Sadie Frost, 34, ''feel like the luckiest parents alive.''... Rap mogul Damon Dash, 31, needed six stitches after several men jumped the Roc-A-Fella Records boss and a documentary crew filming him on a Paris street Oct. 2. Dash declined to press charges. The exec says he was punched and struck with a blackjack but suffered only minor injuries, noting ''We were partying later that night.''
RECOVERING Former 7th Heaven big bro Barry Watson, 28, is ending chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkin's disease, having been declared cancer-free by his doctors. A rep says the actor is ''doing very, very well.''
COURTS Houstons, we have a problem. On Sept. 16, John Houston Entertainment LLC, a management company co-owned by Whitney Houston's dad, sued the diva for $100 million, claiming she never paid the firm for organizing her legal representation after her 2000 arrest for marijuana possession in Hawaii and for negotiating her 2001 record contract with Arista. Both the firm and the singer, 39, maintain that the elder Houston, 81, is on their side; he couldn't be reached for comment.
DEATHS Producer-director Bruce Paltrow, 58, a creative force behind The White Shadow and St. Elsewhere TV series, of complications from throat cancer, Oct. 3, in Rome. He directed daughter Gwyneth in 2000's Duets....
