Q Why does a snippet of Renee Zellweger's clash with Leatherface in 1994's ''Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre'' appear in ''White Oleander''?

A ''Renee told me what a nightmarish experience it was making that film, and then I told her we were going to use it,'' says director Peter Kosminsky, who needed a clip demonstrating the talents of Zellweger's struggling-actress character. (The star's rep declined to comment, but Kosminsky says Zellweger good-naturedly approved the homage.) Seems nobody wants to talk about ''Chainsaw.'' ''We had a blast making that,'' costar Matthew McConaughey recalled recently. ''But that's all I'm going to say on that subject.''
