Johnny Knoxville has the No. 1 film in the country with ''Jackass The Movie,'' but he's said he doesn't want to make another ''Jackass'' movie or revive the MTV series. However, his next role will find him performing a ''Jackass''-like stunt: stealing a corpse, taking it out to the California desert, and setting it on fire. The movie is ''Grand Theft Parsons,'' about the mysterious end met by country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons. After a couple weeks of negotiations, Knoxville has officially signed on to star in the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Knoxville will play Phil Kaufman, Parsons' road manager, who said he was fulfilling a pact with his late friend when he swiped his body from the Los Angeles airport (where it was awaiting shipping to Louisiana to be buried), took it out to the Joshua Tree National Monument, and cremated it. Parsons, who performed his influential songs with the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers and helped launch Emmylou Harris' career, died at 26 in 1973 of a cocktail of tequila and morphine.
Knoxville took the role after Hugh Jackman dropped out because of the ongoing ''X-Men 2'' shoot. The ''Men in Black 2'' costar will act alongside Christina Applegate, Marley Shelton, and Robert Forster in ''Grand Theft,'' according to the Reporter.
