In a switch from her infamous slit-down-to-there Versace frock, Jennifer Lopez looked positively demure in Dolce & Gabbana at last month's VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards. It seems the queen of daring dressing is yet another devotee of fall's schoolgirl chic. Also cribbing the innocent-but-sexy look was Nicole Kidman, who wore a prim Chanel ensemble to a recent Hollywood outing, and Winona Ryder, who's been showing up in court looking as proper as the class prez. (The look also dominated the runways at Anna Sui's and DKNY's NYC shows.)
Trends aside, Lopez had another reason for favoring the girlish look that night: ''I thought about wearing one of my J.Lo sweat suits,'' she says, ''then I thought, 'I wore it all day, maybe I should get dressed up.'''
