Reign of Fire

SHOOTING

(GameCube, PS2, Xbox; BAM!; Mature) It must have sounded like a can't-miss proposition: a videogame whose rugged, well-armed hero must tool around a scorched Earth, defending humanity from a scourge of fire-breathing flying lizards. All the makings of a surefire hit, right? Of course, some Hollywood suits must have had the same thoughts when they decided to make the equally mediocre movie on which this title is based. The game's biggest problem is the annoyingly sluggish controls used to navigate your jeep about the various landscapes. Even the ability to play as a dragon can't mask the little sense of urgency to complete your mission goals. Reign of Fire is hardly the worst bad-movie-to-bad-game ever, but it will likely crash and burn with more discriminating gamers.
