Anson Mount plays a honeyed Nebraska youth, and Julianne Nicholson is the only girl in town not susceptible to his charms in this notably quiet, sturdy coming-of-age tale. The beautifully shot film moves to the plain, honest rhythms of farm life. But within the inevitability of crops and chores, the people growing on this plot of soil are never predictable; neither are the affecting performances.
