The long, painful wait is over: ''American Idol'' is set to return to the air Tuesday, Jan. 21. Fox will air a 90-minute ''Idol'' episode on Tuesdays at 8 p.m., followed by a half-hour post-vote show on Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m., according to Variety.
The return of Simon and the gang means that ''That 70s Show'' will be moved to Wednesdays at 8 p.m., while ''Bernie Mac'' and ''Cedric the Entertainer'' will shift back an hour on Wednesdays, airing at 9 and 9:30 p.m., Variety reports. Meanwhile, the ratings-impaired drama ''Fastlane'' will move to Fridays at 8 p.m., leaving Joss Whedon's sci-fi series ''Firely'' without a timeslot for now.
Judges Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, and Randy Jackson will all return for the second season of ''Idol,'' as will host Ryan Seacrest (cohost Brian Dunkleman is gone). DJ and rapper Angie Martinez had signed on as a fourth judge, but she quickly quit.
