Turns out that stealing Will Smith's identity is not a good idea. Carlos Lomax of Duquesne, Penn., was sentenced to three years in federal prison last week for charging nearly $33,000 to credit card accounts opened under Will Smith's full name, Willard D. Smith, according to the Associated Press. Lomax had pleaded guilty to using unauthorized credit cards in September, AP reported.
Police learned of the fraud when a Sears store gave them a videotape of Lomax using one of his ''Will Smith'' cards, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Lomax had previously served prison time for using a credit card under the name of Atlanta Hawks athlete Steven D. Smith, the newspaper reported. His current conviction also encompasses the use of a card in the name of another, as-yet-undisclosed public figure, according to AP.
