Liza Minnelli, David Gest sue VH1. The couple accuses the channel of illegally canceling plans for their reality show

The Liza and David show has moved from television to the courts. Liza Minnelli and David Gest have filed a $23 million lawsuit against VH1, among others, for abandoning their planned reality program, which never aired. The suit (posted at thesmokinggun.com) claims VH1 breached its contract with the couple, and accuses an anonymous VH1 employee of slandering Gest in comments to the New York Post's Page Six. A VH1 spokesperson told Reuters that the network has no comment on the suit.

Gest and Minnelli were paid a $100,000 advance for the show, according to the suit. VH1 had filmed at least 60 hours of the couple's life when the channel pulled the plug on the program in October, claiming that Gest was difficult to work with. Gest denies that, and his suit says that VH1 threatened to cancel the show if he didn't include pop stars Michelle Branch and Kelly Rowland at a concert held at his house -- a performance the suit says existed only to be filmed for the show. Now that's reality.
