Paul Reubens, a.k.a. Pee-Wee Herman, entered a not guilty plea on Wednesday to a misdemeanor child pornography charge, according to the Associated Press. Reubens was not required to be present for the Los Angeles hearing, and his lawyer entered his plea for him, AP reported. A spokesman for the L.A. City Attorney's office told AP that police seized ''materials that we believe depict minors engaged in sexual activity'' last September. But Reubens' attorney told the wire service that his client is innocent. The images are from ''an extensive collection of vintage physique art photography,'' and Reubens was unaware of any illegal photos, he said.

The investigation of Reubens was said to have stemmed from a teenager's allegations against him and actor Jeffrey Jones (the principal in ''Ferris Bueller's Day Off''). Jones pleaded not guilty last month to charges of child pornography and using a minor for sex acts that arose from the investigation, according to AP. A pre-trial hearing in Reubens' case – which his friend Courteney Cox recently dismissed as ''ridiculous and dumb'' -- is scheduled for January 3.
