In both ''Stepmom'' and ''Igby Goes Down,'' Susan Sarandon played a doomed cancer victim. But in the upcoming CBS TV movie ''Ice Bound,'' Sarandon will star as Dr. Jerri Nielsen, a real-life breast cancer survivor, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Nielsen was forced to treat her own cancer while stranded on the South Pole, a story chronicled in her best-seller ''Ice Bound: A Doctor's Incredible Battle for Survival at the South Pole.''
Sarandon was just nominated for a Golden Globe for her ''Igby'' performance, which climaxed with an assisted suicide. ''Ice Bound'' will be the first project from Miramax's book division to be adapted into a film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
