In one of the few enticing sequences, Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and his crew face off against some cawing pteranodons that cock their anvil heads with auto-jut purpose. In a strange way, the other dinosaurs -- the raptors, the giant Spinosaurus -- come off too much like comfy old friends. This is the first Jurassic film not to be directed by Steven Spielberg, and you miss his playfully sinister hide-and-seek wizardry.
