Matt Damon is dating Ben Affleck's former assistant, but the couple has no plans to get married, Damon's publicist told the Associated Press. The New York Post had reported that Damon announced his engagement to Odessa Whitmire at a party last week. ''The rumor that he's getting engaged has been fabricated over the past couple of weeks, but it's not true,'' the ''Bourne Identity'' star's publicist, Jennifer Allen, told the AP.

Sandra Bullock, of all people, helped fuel the reports while discussing her friend Affleck's relationship with Jennifer Lopez. ''Ben doesn't like publicity,'' Bullock reportedly told reporters during a recent junket. ''I know he'd much rather have had it play out like Matt Damon's engagement to Odessa." Damon and Whitmire are said to have met last year when she worked as Affleck's assistant.
