Knight Fall

Suge Knight arrested on parole violations -- The rap mogul's lawyer denies he associated with gang members

Death Row Records founder Marion ''Suge'' Knight was arrested in Los Angeles Monday on parole violation charges that could land him back in prison for a year, according to the Los Angeles Times. A state parole official declined to disclose the nature of the alleged violations, according to the Times.

Knight's lawyer, David Z. Chesnoff, told the Times that the arrest was unexpected. ''Mr. Knight has done everything in his power to avoid any kind of trouble,'' he said. ''His association with people that the parole board finds objectionable is in all likelihood, if true, directly connected to the music business and nothing else.'' Knight served a five-year prison term beginning in 1996 after violating the probation terms of a 1992 assault and weapons conviction (he and Tupac Shakur were caught on videotape beating a man).

Police have been investigating shootings allegedly committed by employees of Knight's company, now called Tha Row, the Times reported. In November, the police gathered information on Knight's alleged parole violations in a raid on Knight's home and offices, according to the Times.
