Christopher Reeve is returning to the Superman franchise. The actor who played the superhero in four films will guest star on ''Smallville'' during February sweeps month, according to the Hollywood Reporter. He'll play a scientist named Dr. Swann who meets the young Clark Kent (series star Tom Welling) and gives him key information about his past and his future.
''Smallville'' shoots in Vancouver, but the producers plan to accommodate the paralyzed actor by shooting his scenes in New York City on Jan. 17. At the end of the episode, Reuters reports, the WB will air a public service announcement for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series executive producers and co-creators, had always wanted to make Reeve a part of the show, Gough tells the Reporter. ''[Dr. Swann] was written with him in mind, and we were extremely honored when he said yes,'' Gough says. Plus, if Reeve is willing, Dr. Swann could become a recurring character. ''I would love to have him back, and it would be completely up to him,'' Gough says.
