THE CHART

JONESIN' FOR NORAH

This chart represents sales from the week before Grammy nominations were unveiled. But you could be forgiven for assuming it reflected reaction to the Jan. 7 announcement, given how prominently Eminem, Norah Jones, Avril Lavigne, and the Dixie Chicks (Nos. 1-4, respectively) figure in the Grammy race. Jones, hitting her peak, benefited from a prompt rerun of her November SNL spot; she has a shot at No. 1 next week if Grammy press adds up to even more momentum. Although 8 Mile is kilometers from most theaters now, its music lives on, with kids cashing in Christmas gift certificates; the soundtrack's 119,000-unit total was tops in a slow week.
