Diamond Rio (1991)

Details Lead Performance: Diamond Rio; Genre: Country

Since the success of Alabama and the Kentucky HeadHunters brought country bands out of the woods (and into the recording studios), the competition among Nashville groups has never been stronger. Diamond Rio's hit single, ''Meet in the Middle,'' makes the group sound like a Shenandoah clone, but in truth they have a lot more going for them. Their exceedingly commercial debut album, Diamond Rio, is an infectious blend of hook and harmony, sentiment and soul, strung together with snappy songwriting, bluegrass harmonies, and instrumental prowess that puts a fresh twist on the predictable country-jazz-rock base.
