Paramount Pictures reacted to Saturday's space shuttle tragedy and immediately yanked from theaters trailers for its upcoming sci-fi action-adventure ''The Core.'' In that film, about a team of scientists who try toÊsave the planet when Earth's magnetic field goes awry, that magnetic flaw wreaks havoc on the navigation of a space shuttle, which scientists played by Hilary Swank and Aaron Eckhart must then figure out how to land safely. ''We wanted to be sensitive to the tragedy and show respect for the families that have lost loved ones," Paramount publicity VP Nancy Kirkpatrick told USA Today.

The removal of the trailer echoes Hollywood's similar pulling of product out of respect for public sensitivity after the Sept. 11 attacks and last fall's D.C. sniper shootings. The film's release date has already been delayed once (it was initially supposed to be out last November) to give the filmmakers time to spruce of the special effects. Variety reports that the studio will hold fast to the currently scheduled March 28 release date. However, the studio tells Variety it's too soon to tell whether the movie's shuttle sequences will have to be altered or snipped out.
