Up the 'Creek'

They don't wanna wait... for their lives to be over. The stars of ''Dawson's Creek'' want to be movie stars, so they're pulling the plug on the series after six seasons, Variety reports. The show will end with a two-hour finale on May 14 that may jump ahead two years in its character's lives and show what happens to them after college, USA Today reports.

Launched in January 1998, ''Dawson's Creek'', along with ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer,'' helped bring the fledgling WB network its first taste of critical respect and ratings success. It became the network's signature show, establishing the WB as the outlet of choice for programming about angsty, attractive teens. ''Dawson'' also made stars out of its principal cast: James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams. While the show remains strong in the ratings, however, its stars' contracts run out at the end of the season, and now that the characters have aged from painfully self-aware high school students into painfully self-aware college students, the actors chose not to re-up, in order to pursue their budding film careers, Variety reports.
