The post of Jennifer Lopez's father-in-law sounds like a risky, short-term gig, but Robert Redford is up to the challenge. According to trade reports, he'll join her in ''An Unfinished Life,'' the drama she's shooting this April. Both will take pay cuts for the low-budget picture, about a woman who's fallen on hard times who moves with her child into the home of her estranged father-in-law. Lasse Hallstrom (''The Cider House Rules,'' ''Chocolat'') directs.
The movie looks to be Redford's first in the two years since ''Spy Game,'' though the 65-year-old is also developing a sequel to his 1972 political satire ''The Candidate.'' The busy J. Lo may end up with three movies released this year. ''Gigli'' and ''Jersey Girl,'' both costarring fiancé Ben Affleck, are due in the second half of 2003, and Miramax typically releases Hallstrom's movies at Christmas time in the hopes of scoring Oscar nominations.
