Temporarily ditching Hot Tuna, Kaukonen went all mellow and unplugged on this calming 1974 side project, recorded with eccentric singer-guitarist Hobson. The music encompasses glistening instrumentals, bucolic blues covers, and a few of Kaukonen's own square-jawed ballads -- the most beautiful of which, ''Genesis,'' proves it's possible to combine acoustic guitar, tender lyrics, and a string section and not sound sappy.
