Remember when pop meant august ''Hey Jude'' pianos, frilly harmonies, and nothing close to rapping? Indie-rock vet Scott McCaughey of the ad hoc Minus 5 does, and he's got the ditties to prove it. With backup from Wilco, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, and others, McCaughey indulges in this set of rueful ersatz bubble-gum. Hardly essential, but very cute -- and more fun than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
