Songs From the Material World: A Tribute to George Harrison (2003)

EW's GRADE
C+

Details Release Date: Feb 25, 2003; Lead Performance: Various Artists

Even in death, the quiet Beatle gets short shrift. Only a few tracks on this homage to Harrison do his talent justice. Lowlights include Bill Wyman wheezing through ''Taxman'' and They Might Be Giants turning ''Savoy Truffle'' into even more of a trifle than ever. Ironically, it takes a pair of players who've also been overshadowed by greater artists -- Dave Davies and John Entwistle -- to do Harrison proud. Otherwise, this tribute is like a roast.
