The Moore the Scarier

Oscar nominee Moore to play another distraught mom. She's signed to star in a thriller about a woman whose dead child may not have been real

Julianne Moore's skill at playing distraught housewives and mothers earned her two Oscar nominations this year, for ''Far From Heaven'' and ''The Hours.'' She'll do it again at the end of the year when she shoots ''The Forgotten.'' According to the Hollywood Reporter, she's signed on to star in the thriller as a mom who grieves over the loss of her 8-year-old boy, only to be told by her shrink that the child never existed. Then she meets a patient with similarly inexplicable memories and sets out to prove her son was real and regain her sanity. Directing the movie will be Joseph Rubin, who specializes in creepy thrillers about families (''Sleeping with the Enemy,'' ''The Good Son,'' ''The Stepfather'').

Moore is also slated to star opposite Pierce Brosnan this summer in ''Laws of Attraction,'' a romantic comedy about divorce lawyers. She was supposed to shoot the thriller ''Without Apparent Motive'' with Richard Gere this year as welll, but the financing fell through, according to the Reporter.
