Here's proof that scoring an Emmy is no guarantee of job security: According to Variety, Fox has canned ''Bernie Mac Show'' creator Larry Wilmore, who led the show to a writing win just last year. Wilmore had clashed with Fox over the direction of the show, and the network felt that the show didn't have enough laughs, Variety reported. They also were disappointed with the show's ratings.

Wilmore recently told EW that he was frustrated with Fox's treatment of the show, complaining that the network frequently yanked ''Mac'' off the air. ''They'll pull us for whatever reality show brings that 30 share,'' he said. He also complained of creative interference: '' We actually get notes where they say -- and this is not an exaggeration or a reinterpretation -- 'No more poignancy.'''

Among the potential replacements for Wilmore are producers from ''Just Shoot Me'' and ''Malcolm in the Middle,'' Variety reported. Wilmore, meanwhile, is moving on to a deal with NBC. Let's hope the Peacock likes poignancy.
