There's no doubt that the sessions for IDLEWILD's third effort, THE REMOTE PART, yielded a shebang of solid tunes; it's a bit strange, then, that so many of them were left off the album. For while Remote is a perfectly fine collection of emotive, big-ambition British rock songs -- buoyed by supercharged tongue trippers such as ''A Modern Way of Letting Go'' and ''You Held the World in Your Arms'' -- it's overshadowed by many of the band's recent, U.K.-only B sides. Songs like ''All This Information'' and ''A Distant History'' are far better than anything on Remote's rather soggy second portion, and each is easy to track down via online retailers. Our killer-compilation suggestion: Keep Part's fantastic opening half, throw in some B sides to fill it out, and relish your new gig as self-made record-label exec.
