Mourning Becomes Elektra

Jennifer Garner and Scott Foley separate. The ''Alias'' star and her ''A.U.S.A.'' hubby split after two and a half years of marriage

They may have been Hollywood's cutest couple, but after just two and a half years of marriage, Jennifer Garner and Scott Foley are splitsville. The couple, both 30, ''have mutually decided to separate,'' their publicist said in a statement on Tuesday.

No reason was given for the separation, but there have been signs. At last week's Academy Awards, Oscar presenter Garner showed up without Foley (no, co-presenter Mickey Mouse was not her date), while Foley attended a women's cancer research fundraiser in Los Angeles recently without Garner, E! Online reports.

Mirroring a plotline as old as ''A Star Is Born,'' Foley was an established star on TV's ''Felicity'' when he met the little-known Garner, cast as his high school girlfriend on the show. They married in October 2000. Now, with ''Alias'' and ''Daredevil'' under her belt (and a likely starring role in a ''Daredevil'' spinoff about her character, Elektra), Garner is one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, while Foley's new series, the NBC sitcom ''A.U.S.A.,'' is about to get the ax. (Its last episode will air April 15, USA Today reports.) Foley does have a supporting role in Wes Craven's currently shooting werewolf movie, the unfortunately titled ''Cursed.''
