Throw on this London trio's debut and experience immediate rock-royalty recall. Though the band downplays it, lead singer Joe Sumner's reverb-ready wail comes courtesy of his legendary Police-man pops. Fortunately, Sumner also inher-ited a knack for curiously emotive, if cryptic, vocals -- even when overproduction polishes the raw off his most earnest appeals. Pretty good for the Prince of Pain.
