L2T ON THE ROAD: LOS ANGELES

DMC RECORDS Though L.A. was still recoiling from disco in 1984, Larry Saldano knew it was time to get the city dancing again. And with an abundance of 12-inches, turntables, club apparel, and listening stations, his store quickly became home base for area DJs. DMC stocks house, trance, ambient, techno, disco, and funk, but lately it's primarily hip-hop that pays the bills. Store manager Eric Murphy figures 50 Cent deserves his current spot at the top of DMC's best-seller list for his ''catchy lyrics and excellent beats'' and adds, ''When 'In Da Club' dropped, it dropped!''...more money into Slim Shady's pockets, that is.
