VH1 continues to offer an expansive definition of the word ''diva'' with its sixth annual ''Divas'' live broadcast. This year's concert will feature Mary J. Blige, Jewel, and Chaka Khan, performing live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 22. (Additional performers will be named later, the network said in a statement.) Queen Latifah will host the show, with proceeds going to the educational Save the Music Foundation.
The title of this year's event is ''VH1 Divas Duets,'' and the network promises ''unique duets... as we pair together artists to create outstanding performances.'' Yeah, can't wait to hear Jewel and Mary J. harmonizing on ''No More Drama.'' Actually, Jewel might fit the predominantly R&B-oriented concert better than the Alaskan folkie's fans might imagine. Last week, she told MTV News that her upcoming album will be hip-hop and dance-inflected. She said she was inspired by the war to make a record that would get people dancing the way big-band swing did during World War II. The May concert ought to allow her to expose her new electronic side to listeners in time for the yet-untitled CD's release on June 3.
