You’d think Catherine Zeta-Jones would have gotten enough of the legal profession from her ongoing $3.6 million lawsuit against British tabloid Hello!, but go figure. The actress (who is suing the paper for printing unauthorized wedding photos) is currently producing ''Getting and Spending,'' a romantic comedy with a courtroom slant, for Pathe Pictures. The Oscar winner will also star.
“Getting” is the story of a woman who, once accused of insider trading, tries to lure a high-powered lawyer out of self-imposed isolation to take her case. Sparks presumably fly. The script is based on a play by Michael J. Chepiga.
This isn’t Zeta-Jones’ first post-“Chicago” project. She plays Brad Pitt’s animated love interest in the cartoon “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas,” which opens July 2. And in “Intolerable Cruelty,” opening Oct. 10, she plays a woman who vows to take revenge on her ex-husband’s lawyer (George Clooney) by marrying him and robbing him blind through their own divorce proceedings. After that, we’re guessing Harvard Law.
