Ricked Off

Carmen over Rickey? No way! The feisty folks on our ''American Idol'' message board think the phone-in voters were wrong -- and even Clay and Ruben take some heat

EW readers: Carmen over Rickey? No way!

What happened, America? Did you lose Rickey's number? For many ''American Idol'' fans posting to EW.com's message boards, that's as good an explanation as any for why Mr. Smith lost out to Carmen -- especially when his ''Endless Love'' cover on Tuesday night was universally praised by the judges (including celebrity judge Lionel Richie, who sang on the original version):

I understand that Rickey was not going to be the next American Idol, but come on, why was he in the bottom three last night? How the heck did Carmen get off the hook?

cigi
Well...i experienced shock and awe first hand last night, not to mention disgust! Rickey voted off before that screecher Carmen and Kimberly Caldwell.... I don't know what you're thinking America. (going off to pour a shot of whiskey in my coffee and see if the world makes more sense after that)

[If] Carmen isn't off by next week, it will be the last of American Idol for me... Sorry, but I don't watch wrestling for the same reason.

Viewers were also surprised that Kimberley Locke once again landed in the bottom three:

Jersey Girl
I think it's hideous that Kim L. is consistently in the bottom 3. She has a fabulous voice, and I must believe that America keeps voting against her because she is an overweight woman. Wake up, you guys, and get past your prejudices!

cherrylips
everyone seems to love kimberley locke. why aren't you people voting?!! she deserves to make it further than carmen, whose clothes seem to get skimpier every week. (simon conveniently has a seat at the bottom of the stage.) i got your wild card.

As the competition heats up, so do the comments about the current favorites, Clay ''Where Does That Voice Come From?!?'' Aiken and Ruben ''Velvet Teddy Bear'' Studdard. As fans on one side lob Simon-style insults at diehards on the other, do we smell a war brewing?

Paul
Clay Aiken, an early favorite to win, one word... TIMMMMBBERRRRR!!

freida
ruben finally changed his nightgown... He was good but an American Idol? I don't think so. He just stands there wobbling back and forth.

A few weeks back I was all for Clay. But now I feel that I'd be fine listening to Clay sing from a Broadway stage, but if I'm at home with a lady, it's Ruben's voice I want coming from the system.

Angie
If you consider squinting your face, and reaching out your arm as entertainment, then Ruben is THE American Idol.

One ''Idol'' watcher, however, was enthralled by another contestant:

Raj the Conquerer
Did you see Trenyce winking at me last night during her performance? She was trying to seduce me into voting for her -- and it almost worked!!

What did you think of Wednesday's results?
