Hey, Sailor

Here's Vin Diesel's next movie. He's in talks to star in maritime thriller ''Dreadnaught''

Maybe he should change his name to Fin Diesel. The action star may be heading out to sea as the star of the long-in-development naval thriller ''Dreadnaught,'' according to trade reports. He'd play an officer on a state-of-the-art high-tech warship in the film, which Columbia hopes to shoot this fall, after Diesel finishes the ''Pitch Black'' sequel, ''The Chronicles of Riddick,''

The project has been on the shelf for two years; it was initially supposed to star Will Smith and be director McG's follow-up to ''Charlie's Angels,'' but now the studio is now negotiating with Dominic Sena (''Gone in 60 Seconds''). The hold-up has been the movie's plot, which has the stealth ship accidentally shooting down a passenger jet, followed by a mutiny among the crew when they're ordered to cover up the blunder by killing the one surviving passenger. After Sept. 11, such a story was considered unfilmable. Guess with all the friendly-fire incidents that have been reported during the current war, it's not so inconceivable anymore.
