Movie critics will probably shed few tears at the news that Freddie Prinze Jr. wants to quit acting. Fans, however, can take comfort in knowing that the 27-year-old isn't retiring for a while yet. ''I'm going to stop acting in the next few years because it's just too weird,'' Prinze says in the April 19 issue of TV Guide. ''You have to constantly be willing to live in a scary, emotional place, which is why actors are in therapy all the time.''
Prinze, who's currently filming the next ''Scooby-Doo'' movie with his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, says that what he really wants to do is write. He's already penned one episode of the syndicated sci-fi series ''Mutant X,'' which airs this month. Still, he imagines people may be equally skeptical of his newfound career. ''People don't think I can construct a sentence, let alone write a script,'' he says.
