Look at her, she's Sandra Dee. ''Blue Crush'' surfer Kate Bosworth may be heading back out to sea, sort of, in ''Beyond the Sea,'' the Bobby Darin biopic, in which she'd play Sandra Dee, who was married to the singer/actor during the 1960s. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 20-year-old actress is in final negotiations to join the film, which stars Kevin Spacey as Darin and is expected to shoot in late summer.
Dee and Darin had a marriage made in teen-idol heaven; she was the archetypally wholesome teenage girl in movies like 1959's ''A Summer Place,'' and he was a genre-defying singer equally popular singing rock & roll (''Dream Lover'') and jazz-pop standards (''Mack the Knife''). They met in Rome, on the set of ''Come September'' in 1960, and married later that year, when he was 24 and she was 16. They made three films together, had a son (Dodd Darin), and divorced in 1967. Darin, who suffered from a lifelong heart ailment, died at age 37 in 1973 following open-heart surgery.
Spacey, 43, will play Darin at various times in his life, as the ''Sea'' script reportedly jumps back and forth in time. He's also expected to sing various Darin hits, despite the reported reluctance of Dee and her son to license the song rights.
