All three of the ''American Idol'' judges' wild card picks -- Kim Caldwell, Carmen Rasmusen, and Trenyce -- ended up in the bottom three this week. In the end, it was Caldwell who got the boot on Wednesday. The 21-year-old native of Katy, Texas, had been a perennial bottom finisher, as had the other two, and this week, her luck apparently ran out.
The judges all expressed suprise that Caldwell, who opened Tuesday night's Billy Joel-themed show with a performance of ''It's Still Rock and Roll to Me,'' finished lower than Rasmusen, who sang ''So It Goes.'' Still, on Tuesday, Simon Cowell had likened Caldwell's performance to something you might hear at a Six Flags amusement park. Perhaps he was predicting her future; after a quick ''Thank you so much for this incredible, incredible experience'' at the end of Wednesday's episode, Caldwell was gone.
