Back in 1996, Entertainment Weekly praised rising jazz singer/pianist Diana Krall for infusing cabaret standards with ''Elvis Costello-like attitude.'' Guess EW realized the affinity between the two performers even before they did. Now, according to Canadian press reports, Krall and Costello are going to get married.
''They are engaged to be married, but where the marriage is going to be I don't have any idea,'' said the Canadian chanteuse's father. He also said he didn't know when the nuptials would take place, only that he was ''very happy'' about the engagement. Krall's management confirmed the engagement but offered no other details.
Costello and Krall reportedly met at the Grammys in 2002. The 48-year-old rocker split from former Pogues bassist Cait O'Riordan, his wife of 16 years, in November. Since January, he and Krall have frequently appeared in public together. The marriage would be the first for the 37-year-old Krall.
