NBC signs Tina Fey to $4 million deal. Besides her ''SNL'' duties, she'll develop a prime-time show

Ashleigh Banfield's career may be in trouble after her public criticism last week of NBC's news coverage, but another bespectacled brunette NBC newsreader is on the upswing. According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC has signed a two-year, $4 million deal for the continued services of ''Saturday Night Live'''s Tina Fey. Not only will she continue her ''SNL'' duties -- she's been the show's head writer since 1999 and the ''Weekend Update'' co-anchor with Jimmy Fallon since 2000 -- but she'll also develop a primetime sitcom for the network.

It's been a good week for the Emmy-winning writer, who also landed on People magazine's ''50 Most Beautiful People'' list. (Last year, Fallon made the cut.) That'll be another page for the scrapbook. As Fey told Entertainment Weekly in 2001, she's mystified that people think she's a hottie. ''I save those clippings so I can prove to my children that someone once said that,'' she said.
