DIVINE SAVOR The gross-out drag queen pigs out

Why ''Pink Flamingos'' is one of the top 10 cult movies

The grande dame of gross-out movies, ''Flamingos'' set a cinematic sub-standard that, 31 years later, still hasn't been matched. Ostensibly the story of Babs Johnson, a Baltimore trailer-park queen trying to retain her ''Filthiest Person Alive'' title, ''Flamingos'' is, at its nonexistent heart, a collection of vignettes so revolting that audiences -- then and now -- could only gape in horrified glee. Like Johnson's playpen-bound mother, Edie the egg lady. Or the man/woman/chicken threesome, which verges on snuff porn. Or Divine's doggy-doo dinner, a historic feat of guerrilla cinema that's been giddily rehashed by film buffs and Waters aficionados ad nauseam. Literally.
