WHAT THEY SAID Forget the ''Millionaire'' massacre -- we're all about ''The Bachelor.'' It's Comeback City or bust!

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED Audiences accepted Trista's rose, but Comeback City remains far in the distance.

PEAK PERFORMERS The ''Bachelor'' party continued, with the original (No. 18) and spin-off, ''The Bachelorette'' (No. 13), becoming the net's top-rated entertainment series, with 14.5 and 16.7 million viewers, respectively. ''No one would have expected that we would be dominating 'West Wing,''' says ABC entertainment VP Jeff Bader. ''That it's held up for three rounds now surprised us.'' Another pleasant present: Wednesday familycoms ''My Wife and Kids'' (No. 37) and ''George Lopez'' (No. 49) were up in viewers from last season. Eight was enough -- ''8 Simple Rules...'' (No. 38), that is -- to draw a comedy crowd, and ''Extreme Makeover'' looked good at No. 40.

BLEAK PERFORMERS Reality was a double-edged sword, and the other side hurt: Witness insta-failures like the search-for-a-sweetheart competition ''All American Girl'' (No. 117), the George Hamilton-hosted ''The Family'' (No. 102), the military docuseries ''Profiles From the Front Line'' (No. 112), and the fleshfest ''Are You Hot?'' (No. 74). ''Everyone got excited about how it seemed like you could take any reality show and put it in a broken time period and instantly fix it,'' says Bader. ''Suddenly, there were so many on...nothing was breaking through anymore.'' Other breakdowns included ''The Drew Carey Show'' (No. 121) and a pair of freshman dramas, ''Veritas'' (No. 96) and ''Miracles'' (No. 110). '''Miracles' had some of the most passionate fans of any show,'' says Bader. ''But there were so few of them.''
